On Thursday, 19th September 2019, the third edition of Didacta Italia Fair – to be held from 9th to 11th October 2019 and open from 9.00 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. – was presented at the MIUR (Ministry of Education, University and Research) headquarters in Rome. This fair is dedicated to school and is aimed at teachers, school officials, educators, instructors, professionals and entrepreneurs in the school and technology field. The Fair will feature 180 events, in addition to 500 training hours for teachers.
This Fair – celebrating the 5th centenary of Leonardo Da Vinci’s death and included by the Ministry of Education among the events set out in the multiannual educational plan for teachers – was presented by Minister Lorenzo Fioramonti, Cristina Grieco, Education and Training Councillor for the Region of Tuscany, Sara Funaro, Councillor of University and Research for the Florence Municipality, Giovanni Biondi, President of Indire, and Wassilios Emmanuel Fthenakis, Honorary President of Didacta International.
Once again, after the 2018 successful edition (+23% tickets sold compared to the previous edition, with over 23,000 participants in seminars and events, and over 10,000 people connected through social networks), Didacta Italia proves to be the most important annual event in Italy to launch new proposals for the future of school. In 2019, the Fair is going to be set up inside 5 pavilions, with an exhibiting surface of over 31,000 square metres, including also the halls of the Monumental Area of the Medicean fortress. To date, over 80% of the training events is sold out.
This third edition is organised by Firenze Fiera with the scientific coordination of Indire, and with an organizing committee also composed by MIUR, the Region of Tuscany, the Florence Municipality, the Florence Chamber of Commerce, Unioncamere, Didacta International, ITKAM and Destination Florence Convention & Visitors Bureau. Among the participants, many national and international scientific and cultural institutions, universities, schools, associations, companies, foundations and museums. MIUR will participate with an exhibiting space of around 500 square metres, even bigger than last year.

This year, the Fair, a spin-off of Didacta International – the greatest school and education fair in Europe and among the most important ones in the world – is also part of the German Week in Italy, promoted and organised by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, with a series of events, exhibitions, shows and meetings taking place from 6th to 13th October 2019 all over Italy, to discuss the relationship between Italy and Germany, 30 years after the Fall of the Berlin Wall.
An absolute new feature of the 2019 edition is the event “SCUOLA=FUTURO: Ex machina. Spazi di apprendimento ed esperienze didattiche per la scuola del futuro” (SCHOOL=FUTURE: Ex-Machina. Learning Spaces and Educational Experiences for the School of Tomorrow), inspired by Leonardo da Vinci. Inside the pavilion “Le Ghiaie”, on a surface of over 1,000 square metres, Indire will set up two spaces: one for secondary school, the other for primary school. These will feature articulated and integrated spaces, furnishing and technology created according to a model developed by Indire in these last years (see Manifesto 1+4). In the school of future, premises, furnishing and technologies are set to be functional to educational activities according to a close combination of teaching and space organisation. The itineraries suggested are: the Pantograph, or Similarities; the Odometer, or World Measurements.
During the three days of Didacta Italia, in addition to training activities, participants will be able to visit the rich exhibition section. Over 200 companies will participate (the main sponsor being Samsung – MR Digital), for a complete offer of all the new school features, with the most sophisticated proposals of technology and robotics, school furnishing, publishing houses, stationery supplies, educational games, training, study trips, language training and musical education.
The 2019 edition will also focus on new exhibiting sections, such as mechatronic technologies (a science studying the combination of mechanics, electronics and computer science) and sustainability.
Special attention will be given not only to startups and innovation, with the contribution of the University of Florence, but also to sustainability, involving innovative companies, actively operating in the field of circular economy, for an increasingly green Italian school, helping new generations grow through teaching and educational tool innovation, and making them conscious protagonists of a sustainable future.
For the first time at Didacta Italia, a GREEN AREA will be set up to try and strengthen the relationship between the school world and entities like companies which already practice sustainability processes, through meetings and presentations of company projects and plans, to start promoting an increasingly green society already since school age.
