“Dentro della cerchia antica” by Lorenzo Conti Lapi Presented as ‘Book of the Week’ at Villa Vittoria Cultura

Florence, 17th September 2024. Tomorrow (18th September), at 18:00, the book “Dentro della cerchia antica” (Within Her Ancient Ring of Walls) by Lorenzo Conti Lapi (Edizioni Remo Sandron, 2009) will be presented inside the garden of Villa Vittoria.
This event will be introduced by Giovanni Fittante, President of Villa Vittoria Cultura and coordinator of the cultural project, and moderated by Lorenzo Becattini, President of Firenze Fiera. The author will be joined by Benedetta Albanese, Councillor with responsibilities for Education, Professional Training, Culture of Memory and Legality, and Equal Opportunities of the Florence Municipality.
This book is an original and precious collection of poetry and prose divided into five sections named after five locations of the ancient Florence city centre (Calimaruzza, Pellicceria, Corso, Proconsolo, Sant’Apollonia). Through an extremely fascinating dialogue with many influential Florentine and non-Florentine voices of the past and present –Lorenzo Ghiberti, Hermann Hesse, Meister Eckhart, Berto Ricci –, the author’s book is infused with a vision reflecting a Florentine spirit and morality that is jealously claimed and exalted in its ideal species as being the possible foundation for a universally valid civilization. The homeland of Dante – an inspirational figure of the book as suggested by the title and by a dedication to Emperor Henry VII – thus coincides with the whole human family.
A remarkably rich and mature work, ‘Dentro della cerchia antica’ confirms the special gift of Lorenzo Conti Lapi – his ability to actualise the literary and philosophical tradition by creating a fruitful exchange with contemporaneity.
