DIDACTA ITALY – Tomorrow (Sunday), the Last Day, Is the MONTESSORI DAY

Florence, 21st May 2022. The fifth edition of DIDACTA ITALY is ending tomorrow (Sunday, 22nd May 2022) at the Fortezza da Basso. Finally live again, the Fair has seen a boom in attendance, including teachers, school managers, educators, students, and entrepreneurs of the school and technology sector, all visiting the various booths and attending the over 250 educational events.
“Didacta is a great School Fair. It is not only an extraordinary moment when everyone shares their own experiences, but it is also a place where you can check the states of progress, and the innovation ability of our school. The school world needs experience, because this is the core aspect of autonomy”, said Italian Minister of Education Patrizio Bianchi while visiting the Fair and participating in the congress “States-General of Education – I.T.S. The New Higher Technical Education and the Job Market”, which took place at the Fortezza just a few days after a draft law concerning ITS was approved by the Italian Senate’s Budget Commission – a crucial moment for the much-desired reform of the ITS system.
The highlight of this last day (Sunday) will be the Montessori Day, a non-stop day paying homage to this extraordinary woman, whose teaching method (still bearing her name today), revolutionized the school model, focusing the attention on the child seen as the “Father of Man”, a Master of Peace, Inclusion, and Education, and encouraging people to be Citizens of the World. During the Montessori Day, it will be possible to explore the exciting life of this amazing woman, who was among the first women who graduated in Medicine in 1896. An ante litteram nonconformist and feminist, in 1896 she participated in the Women’s Congress in Berlin to represent Italy. She was also a prophetess of a new humankind who, for the first time, overturned traditional pedagogy from the foundations with a view to a new anthropological thinking, focusing on children’s education. This thinking was also successfully applied to elderly’s degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.
The convention “Maria Montessori and the School of the Third Millennium – Scenarios, Perspectives, Challenges”” will be held at 11:30 at Teatrino Lorenese, focusing on the innovation generated by Montessori’s vision, not only for school, but also for the society of the third millennium. A debate will take place with the participation of scholars and experts such as Francesco Favi, Councillor of Culture, Public Education and Valorisation of Maria Montessori’s Vision for the Municipality of Chiaravalle, in the Region of Marche, Benedetto Scoppola, President of Opera Nazionale Montessori and W. E. Fthenakis, Honorary President of Didacta International and a researcher of the Montessori method.
In the afternoon, from 16:00 to 18:00, the theatrical performance “Donne tutte sorgete!” (All Women, Rise!) will take place, curated by CollegaMenti and the
