Florence, 6th September 2024 – From the latest civil and military aeronautical technologies to designing prototypes for airplanes, helicopters, and other aircraft, in addition to green research and new solutions dedicated to this sector. For four days, Firenze will become the centre of international aeronautics, hosting the 34th ICAS Congress – the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences, gathering aeronautical associations from 30 countries – at Palazzo dei Congressi & Palazzo degli Affari from 9th to 13th September. Over 1,000 experts coming from 41 countries are expected to attend this event, offering debates and insights. Among them, names such as Roberto Cingolani, former Italian Minister for Environment and Energy Security and CEO of Leonardo, who will receive the prestigious Daniel and Florence Guggenheim Award from ICAS.
Thanks to the Congress, the greater public and the international élite of this sector will have the opportunity to see the products created, the research developed in our country, and much more. The bid submitted by Florence prevailed over a strong competitor like Sydney, and was won thanks to a teamwork between the Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIDAA), the convention bureau of Fondazione Destination Florence, Firenze Fiera, AIM Group International, local institutions, universities, and research bodies.
THE CONGRESS. The congress will start on Monday, 9th September at the Auditorium of Palazzo dei Congressi at Firenze Fiera, at 8:30, opened by Prof. Dimitri Mavris, President of ICAS, and by Prof. Erasmo Carrera, President of AIDAA. The official welcoming ceremony will take place in the evening at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. During the event, representatives of the most important organisations dealing with research and development in the astronautic field will have the opportunity to present the latest research results by NASA, Boeing, Airbus and Embraer. Issues including designing hydrogen-powered aircraft and adaptive structures for future aircraft will be discussed, and there will be the possibility of visiting the exhibiting area with prototypes, including the one by the Italian Aerospace Research Centre (CIRA). Hosting over 1,000 representatives and speakers from 41 countries, this edition is set to become the greatest congress in the history of ICAS.
