The Computational Neuroscience (CNS) conference at Palazzo dei Congressi from July 5th to 9th, thanks to the joint bid between Firenze Fiera – Destination Florence – MCR

Florence, July 2nd, 2025. Thanks to the joint efforts of Firenze Fiera, the Destination Florence Foundation and the local partner MCR Conference, the Florence exhibition and congress district has secured the annual Computational Neuroscience (CNS) conference, which from July 5th to 9th will bring together over 540 delegates at Palazzo dei Congressi.
The origins of the CNS conference date back to the 1990s when the first workshop titled “Analysis and Modeling of Neural Systems” was held at the Clark Kerr Campus in Berkeley, California, a small local event that for the first time aimed to explore the boundaries between neuroscience and computation. Thanks to the success of the scientific papers by Hopfield (1982) and Hopfield & Tank (1986), scientists started to disseminate the computational potential of “neural networks.” With the beginning of collaboration between biologists and computational scientists, new generations of scholars have gained increasing experience with both experimental techniques and quantitative methods. CNS plays a crucial role at this intersection, where experimental neuroscience meets theoretical analysis, statistics and computer simulations.
The event will feature prominent speakers such as Ken Miller, professor of Neuroscience at Columbia University, Konrad Kording, professor of Neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania, Sara Solla, professor of Physics and Neuroscience at Northwestern University, and Maurizio Mattia, researcher at the National Center for Radiation Protection and Computational Physics of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità. Also present will be researcher Sergio Solinas, who was awarded last year as an Ambassador of the City of Florence for his outstanding work organizing CNS 2025, and Michele Migliore, director of the computational neuroscience group at the Institute of Biophysics of CNR.
