CASTANEA EXPO 2025: From December 12 to 14, at the Fortezza da Basso, the first national fair dedicated to chestnut cultivation
Florence, November 7, 2025 – CASTANEA EXPO 2025, the first fair in Italy dedicated to the chestnut supply chain and the future of chestnut cultivation, will take place at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence from December 12 to 14.
The event is promoted and organized by Firenze Fiera, with the patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests, the Tuscany Region, the Municipality of Florence, the Florence Chamber of Commerce, Anci Toscana, Vetrina Toscana, Legacoop Alimentare, Slow Food, Confcooperative, and Eurocastanea (European Chestnut Network). It aims to enhance the chestnut as an agricultural, economic, landscape, and cultural resource, involving producers, local authorities, associations, research institutes, processing companies, consortia, and tourism operators from various Italian regions as well as important European chestnut districts, particularly in France and Greece.
The event will feature extensive exhibition areas, displays, conferences, workshops, training labs, tastings, and cooking shows, highlighting a strategic supply chain for many mountainous and inland areas of Italy. Today, chestnut cultivation is increasingly recognized for its sustainability, biodiversity, and territorial regeneration. Visitors will experience a full immersion into tradition and innovation, ancient knowledge and new technologies, innovative products including nutraceuticals, new nature trails, and tourist ‘maps’ along hills and mountain ridges. The spotlight will be on chestnut cultivation, the numerous health benefits of the fruit, and the majestic ‘patriarch’ chestnut trees, living monuments that have witnessed generations, rural civilizations, and biodiversity.
“Firenze Fiera believes in the value of production chains through events that showcase our country’s identity,” said Lorenzo Becattini, President of Firenze Fiera. “With Castanea Expo 2025, we aim to highlight a crop that has always been a cultural, economic, and landscape heritage of Tuscany (the Italian region with the highest number of PGI and PDO certifications) and other inland and mountainous areas, creating new connections between institutions, territories, tourism operators, producers, and consumers.”
